We evaluated the influence of various factors on stone passage in patients treated for upper urinary tract calculi in our region. Between January 1993 and December 1995, 228 patients underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for upper urinary tract calculi. They were reviewed retrospectively for pre- and per-operative variables including demographics, stone size, site, and composition, and operative factors, including number of tracts, length of stay, and complications. Overall stone-free rate was 90.3% (200/228). The mean (SD) age of the patients was 52.8 (13.8) years.
