This sandbox-style adventure presents a series of dangerous areas where players could succeed or fail based on their preparation and cleverness. Different forces vie against each other--will you pick a side? You'll need to manage time and risk, planning delves into the valley and then returning to the tavern to recover. The valley is more dangerous after sunset, so plan your trip carefully!
James Franciscus plays Tuck, an amiable hustler who comes back into the life of T.J. (lovely Gila Golan). T.J. is one of the participants in a Wild West show that is not doing so well at the moment. However, one of their people, Carlos (Gustavo Rojo) has ventured into a Mexican location known as the "Forbidden Valley" and come back with a prize: an adorable "Eohippus", or miniature prehistoric horse. Circumstances lead Tuck and others to head into the valley, where they encounter other ancient animals, such as a Styracosaurus and a very aggressive Allosaurus. In the well loved tradition of "King Kong", T.J. and her friends, including Champ (Richard Carlson), get the bright idea to introduce the Allosaurus - who gets christened Gwangi - to their show. Havoc predictably ensues. There may be viewers who will grow impatient with the pacing at first. "The Valley of Gwangi" runs longer than previous Ray Harryhausen - Charles H. Schneer productions at 96 minutes, and it's not until the movies' second half that we get to see any dinosaurs. But the little Eohippus is sure to charm people, not just children, and the story is very engaging. It helps that the actors are so sincere. The handsome Franciscus is good in the starring role, with fine support from Ms. Golan and Mr. Carlson. Young Curtis Arden is appealing in the role of Lope the child, who had to fend for himself from an early age and who is clearly eager to make a buck. Freda Jackson is amusing in the somewhat annoying, clichéd role of the wise old doomsayer who rants about the consequences of individuals going into the valley and bringing back "evil" specimens. As expected, Harryhausen's special effects are excellent. They're especially impressive in the movies' major set piece, when Tuck, Champ and others work overtime to try to lasso Gwangi. And once the action kicks into gear in this thing, a real fever pitch is reached and then maintained until the absolute end, with an exciting rampage.Mostly lighthearted entertainment, but G ratings weren't always what they are now: a few people do fall victim to the jaws and teeth of Gwangi.Very well directed by Jim O'Connolly ("Crooks and Coronets", "Tower of Evil").Seven out of 10.

Ray Harryhausen has a unique place in the history of film and it's not the quality of his work. A lot of players are box office names, a few director/producers like Cecil B. DeMille, Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Capra, and Walt Disney most of all bring people in with having their names on a film. But Ray Harryhausen is the only one in his profession as a special effects man who brings folks to the theater. That's the best tribute of all for him.Late in the 19th century Gita Golan owner of a small wild west show is playing Mexico and she's got a unique attraction as she has found a small horse, an ancient eohippus which has come out of a valley said to be cursed and inhabited by fierce creatures called the Gwangi. An old flame who works for Buffalo Bill, James Franciscus and some of his wild west show cowboys show up to track down the little horse after some local gypsies under the direction of Freda Jackson set it free. But what they run into is an ancient tyrannosaurus which is called a Gwangi by the locals. It's like when Carl Dedham spotted King Kong, got to get this guy back to civilization and make a bundle off him.The plot is outrageous with some great overacting by Freda Jackson as the old gypsy crone and Laurence Naismith as a palaeontologist all in the spirit of fun. I love it when Franciscus and the cowboys discover that the reason their bullets are having no affect on the big guy is they're using blanks from the show. Does it deter them, it does not they set about to lariat T-Rex and play an interesting an deadly game of tag. When they do capture him and later destroy him, it's with a lot of luck and some natural forces in nature.Dopey plot, but that's part of the fun. And the work of Ray Harryhausen is the reason to see the film and in that you won't be disappointed.

Nixa joined a coalition of other Ghost Beasts who agreed to attack eastern Avantia, which was prosperous and beautiful, and take it as their own territory. The Ghost Beasts' plan was successful, and they drove out or killed all life within the region. The land was abandoned to the Beasts and cordoned off from the rest of the kingdom with a huge wall of black stone. In the carve up, the Beasts agreed Nixa would take a large valley as her territory. The Death-Bringer used her spectral abilities to decay the landscape, now referred to as the Dead Valley. Nixa hunted in her territory for centuries, using her powers to lure nomads and creatures to her to consume.
Nixa was pursued by her foes to her cave upon a small plateau. She positioned herself opposite the entrance and moved through the stalagmites, waiting. The Beast used her voice in a constant lure, however due to Aduro's magic, neither Tom nor Elenna could hear, rendering the attack useless. Tom tried to sneak forwards, however was spotted by the Ghost Beast. Nixa let out a howl to attack, aware of the futility of her voice, releasing a torrent of wind that sent stalagmites and stalactites rocketing towards her foes, although they were able to dodge. Tom used his shield to deflect the rocky missiles, leaving Nixa's rising volume to no avail. The Beast changed form into the beautiful woman as Tom charged, shifting to ghost form as he attacked. She laughed at Tom and revealed her part of the Amulet as his attack sailed through her. Tom slashed at the nearby wall, unable to hear the noise, however Nixa howled in agony, which Tom began to hear as Aduro's magic began to fade. She returned to ghost form, going right through Tom as she tried to retreat through the cave entrance, but was stopped by Elenna scraping an arrow on a stalagmite. The Beast retreated back towards Tom, who swept his sword over the ground, bringing both sides to a stalemate, as she was left unable to move but couldn't be defeated by noise quickly enough. As the two began to become prone to her voice, Tom leapt forward and tried to make a grab for the Amulet piece, but Nixa held it back, reverted to her true form, and grabbed Tom around the waist with a tendril, but was forced to release him in pain when he scraped his sword across the ground. Nixa's voice grew louder as Aduro's magic faded, with Tom rushing forwards, desperate to end the fight quickly. By scraping his sword across the stalagmite, the noise's proximity became too close for Nixa to handle. Her voice grew ever louder, causing the Avantians to cover their ears in pain. Through the agony, Tom slashed the ground for a final time, the repeated barrage of noise finally proving too much for the Beast and causing her to explode into gristle while leaving the first piece of the Amulet of Avantia unguarded.
Geographically, the Berchtesgaden National Park is a high mountain region, with the tallest peak being Watzmann mountain at a height of 2,731 m. The landscape is characterized by many other mountains, such as the Jenner, as well as mountain lakes, valleys and forests. At lake Funtensee the lowest temperatures are measured regularly, making it one of the coldest places in Germany. Furthermore, a unique geological site is the 10 km long valley Wimbachgries that stretches between Watzmann and Hochkalter and consists only of scree-covered ledges. It was most likely formed by a collapsing vault between the two mountains.
The landscape of the park, where over 150 of the mountains reach a height of over 3,000 m, is also characterised by glaciers, waterfalls, lakes and Alpine pastures. The park has seven very different valleys, in each of which a visitor centre is located. Many hiking, climbing and skiing opportunities can be found here. Within the core zone there are almost 700 km of hiking trails. In the outer zone, the trails are also accessible to mountain bikers and horse riders. The hiking routes offer options for short day trips as well as for multi-day tours.
The Stelvio Pass connects South Tyrol with Lombardy and at around 2,760 m it is the second highest Alpine pass. The high mountains in the park are characterised by many mountain lakes, high valleys and valley heads. In addition, several glaciers, such as in Suldental valley, and waterfalls, e.g. around Trafoi, adorn the landscape.
The national park is particularly green and water-rich. Gentle plateaus and grassy hills as well as springs, bogs and streams shape the landscape. The Sofia and Cadini del Brenton waterfalls can be found in the Mis valley. There are also two man-made reservoirs in the park, Lago della Stua and Lago di Mis.
The Val Grande National Park is located in the northern part of the Italian Alps in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola near the Swiss border and covers an area of 146 km2. The park consists of seven side valleys that lead to the 25 km long Val Grande valley, which is located in the west of the park. The San Bernadino torrent flows through the Val Grande valley into Lake Maggiore south of the national park. 2ff7e9595c
